| RAIN HOLDS OFF, RASCALS WIN IN FIVE
O’Fallon, MO – The rain held off just long enough to allow the River City Rascals to earn their second straight win against the Gateway Grizzlies 5-3 in five innings. Mike Castrignano made his professional debut for the Rascals going five innings and recording six strikeouts. After two scoreless innings, the Rascals bats ignited in the third with a double into left by Luke Barganier. Phil Laurent followed suit with his first hit of the season with a drive down the left field line. Jacob DeBoer added to the lead with a base hit and an RBI giving the Rascals a 3-0 lead. The Grizzlies got on the scoreboard in the fourth with a pair of unearned runs. Charlie Lisk hit a one out sacrifice fly and Manny Paula singled in a run to make it 3-2 Rascals. Laurent and DeBoer gave the Rascals some insurance in the fourth with RBI singles to push the lead to 5-2. Gateway scored their last run in the fifth when Al Barbato walked and then scored on a Michael Campbell single. For Campbell it was his league leading ninth RBI of the season to make it 5-3. But the loyal fans and the 5-3 lead by the Rascals weren’t enough to hold off the rain. After a light shower turned into heavy thunderstorms, the game was called after five innings giving the Rascals the series victory with one game left to play. Castrignano (1-0) picked up the win for the Rascals pitching five complete innings. Matt Falk (0-1) took the loss for the Grizzlies last four innings and allowing five earned runs. The Rascals (2-3) and the Grizzlies (1-4) will finish the three game set Monday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark at 7:05 p.m. Gates will open at 6:05 p.m. and tickets are available by calling (636) 240-BATS or visiting www.rivercityrascals.com.
