| RASCALS COMPLETE SWEEP OF GRIZZLIES
O’Fallon, MO – The River City Rascals finished off the Gateway Grizzlies with a sweep to begin the 2008 home schedule, defeating the reigning Frontier League Western Division Champions 8-3 Monday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Chris Clem made his second start of the season against Gateway veteran Erik Deaasu. The Rascals got the bats going right away with a two-run homer by Bobby Mosby in the bottom of the first giving the Rascals an early 2-0 lead. The Grizzlies responded in the second with a solo homerun from Charlie Lisk, his second of the series. Jacob DeBoer padded the Rascals lead in the second when he doubled, batting in Luke Barganier and Chris Raniere. Ryne Malone hit a solo homerun in third for the Grizzlies, but the Rascals held the lead with Luke Barganier throwing out Stephen Holdren at home plate from center field. The game idled with a 4-2 Rascals lead until the sixth when Jeff Miller got his first hit of the season, batting in Mosby for a 5-2 lead. The first five River City runs were driven in with two outs Monday night. Miller punctuated the lead again in the eighth when he hit a three run homerun to the right side. “That first hit took all the pressure off,” said Jeff Miller, “I was the last guy on the team without a hit and now the weight of the world has been lifted, it was exactly what I needed.” Clem (1-1) got the win for River City going 6.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits and one strikeout. Dessau (0-1) dropped his first decision of the season going seven innings, allowing five earned runs and eight hits. Adam Tollefson, Armando Carrasco and Mike Benacka combined to throw 2.1 innings of shutout baseball from the bullpen. They also combined to strike out six batters. The Rascals (3-3) will begin a three game series against the Rockford RiverHawks (4-1) Tuesday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark at 7:05 p.m. This will be the second series against Rockford in the 2008 season.
