O’Fallon, MO – Bobby Mosby drove in five runs with three hits helping the River City Rascals defeat the Midwest Sliders 9-3 Wednesday night.

The Rascals came out of the box swinging, scoring seven of their runs in the first two innings.

Jeff Miller got the bats going in the first for the Rascals by singling to center. Brad Hough followed up with a double down the left field line. After a Randy Rosa hit-by-pitch, Mosby stepped up with the bases loaed. With a two-strike count, Mosby singled to left-center and after Jonnie Knoble misplayed the ball, it continued all the way to the wall to score three runs.

The Rascals continued on in the bottom of the second inning. Miller started things off again hitting a single to the right field wall, and advancing Jacob DeBoer to third after he reached on a walk. Hough’s hit to left for the second time scored DeBoer, making it 4-0 River City. With two outs, Mosby stepped up to the plate again with the bases loaded, following a walk by Rosa. Mosby doubled this time to clear the bases, making it 7-0.

Midwest’s starting pitcher Albert Ayala exited the game in the second inning after giving up seven earned on seven hits.

Midwest got on the board in the third inning. Leadoff batter Zach Pace reached on a walk, and advanced to third when Zach Zaneski singled for the first hit of his professional career. Pace scored for the Sliders when Troy Ferguson singled to right.

But the Rascals were not finished scoring just yet. Miller and Hough hit back-to-back RBI singles off Ryan McFarland with two outs giving the Rascals 9-1 lead.

Midwest added a run each in the fifth and seventh innings, but they would not score the rest of the game.

Ayala (0-2) took the loss for the Sliders lasting only 1.2 innings and giving up seven hits and seven runs. Danny Powers (1-1) collected his first win of the season pitching five innings with six hits and only two runs. Miller finished up the night 4-5 with and RBI an two runs scored.

The River City Rascals (12-8) and the Midwest Sliders (5-15) will finish the series on Thursday, June 12 at 11:05 a.m., in the only day game of the season. Thursday’s are still are ‘Budweiser Thirsty Thursdays,’ and draft beers are just $1 in Rascals Island for fans 21 and older.
