| WILD THINGS BOMB WAY TO WIN
Washington, PA – There were fireworks during and after the game at Consol Energy Park Friday night as the Washington Wild Things hit three homeruns to win 9-4 over the River City Rascals. The Rascals added their own homerun, a grand slam, by Luke Bargainer in the ninth inning off right-handed relief pitcher John Leonard. River City’s rally came way too late as they could barely touch Wild Thing starter Mike Eisenberg. Eisenburg (1-2) pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits and walking none on the way to his first victory of the season. Jonathan Miller (1-2) started for the Rascals and fell behind early, allowing three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jacob Dempsey and Nathan Messner picked up RBI singles and Robbie Knapp drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Washington added another run in the second when Miller walked Brett Grandstrand with one out. Grandstrand was moved around and later scored on a Matt Sutton RBI single to make it 4-0. The Wild Things were dormant until the sixth innings when with one out Miller walked Drew Hoisington. The walk was immediately followed by a Pat O’Brien homerun to right, his first of the season. Now sitting at 6-0, Washington tacked a few more on Rascals’ relief pitcher Gary Lee. With a runner on first, Dempsey drove in his second and third RBIs of the ballgame with a homerun that rang off the foul pole in right. A Grandstrand homerun in the eighth off Lee make it 9-0. Leonard was then brought it to pitch the ninth. After walking the bases loaded and a couple of strikeouts, Barganier drove one out to right for his first blast of the season. Trailing then by five, Phil Laurent lined out to end the ballgame. Miller finished up going six innings and allowing six runs on seven hits with three walks for the loss. The Wild Things (10-11) and Rascals (12-10) are tied up at two games apiece for the season series edge. The two will play Saturday night at Consol Energy Park beginning at 7:05 p.m. EST. Scott Fogelson (1-1) will make his first start of the season for River City. Follow the Rascals on the road by listening to Josh Anderson on FM 104.5 KSLQ.
