| RASCALS IN FIRST WITH WIN
O’Fallon, MO – It feels great to be on top. For the first time this season the River City Rascals sit on top of the Frontier League West after their 10-5 win over the Evansville Otters Tuesday night. For River City, it was their second straight win over Evansville and thirteenth win at home in seventeen games. Chris Clem (2-3) started for the Rascals and had his best start of the season. The right-hander went eight innings and allowed one unearned run while striking out a season best 10 batters. Clem received plenty of run support in the third and fourth innings. With the Rascals down 1-0, Phil Laurent stepped to the plate and hit his second home run of the season and first at T.R. Hughes Ballpark to tie the score. For Laurent it was a long time coming. “I’ve just been telling myself to stay patient, the results will come,” Laurent said. “I’ve been feeling better about my swing and thought I was right where it needed to be and it just felt great to hit that first one here at home.” The Rascals scored three more in the third on RBIs from A.J. Van Slyke, Brad Hough and Bobby Mosby to make it 4-1. Justin Jordan (3-3) dropped his second straight decision as the third inning was his last. Jordan gave up four earned and eight hits with three strikeouts. River City picked right back up in the fourth off reliever Kyle Pawelczyk. The Rascals scored six in the fourth thanks to a three run home run by Ryan Wehrle. For Wehrle, it was his first home run in his second game for the Rascals. Mosby drove home his second RBI after Van Slyke doubled for his first Rascal hit. Laurent knocked home two more in the fourth with a single back through the middle to make it 10-1 River City. The game stayed at 10-1 until the ninth. Gary Lee came in for the Rascals and struck out the first batter he faced, but then allowed the next six to reach including a solo home run to Isaac Omura. The Otters would score four in the inning off Lee before the right-hander finally got Christian Reyes to ground out to short for the win. The Rascals (15-11) now have a one game lead in the West over Evansville (14-12) and will go for the sweep Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Jonathan Miller (1-2, 2.87 ERA) gets the nod for River City. Wednesday nights are military appreciation nights. Military personnel can show their IDs at the box office and receive $2 off a box seat ticket. For tickets, call the Rascals at (636) 240-BATS.
