HOME RUNS CARRY GRIZZLIES IN GAME TWO

Sauget, IL – The long ball and two out walks came back to hurt the River City Rascals Monday night at GCS Ballpark as the Gateway Grizzlies won 8-4 to even the series.

Chad Rothford and Charlie Lisk went back-to-back in the bottom of the first inning off Rascals starter Jonathan Miller. The homers followed a two out walk to Ryne Malone and after an inning it was 3-0 Grizzlies.

Brandon Williams started for Gateway and had to leave in the fifth with pain in his throwing elbow. Williams surrended four runs, two of which came on home runs whyen Jeff Miller and Bobby Mosby each went yard. Miller hit his sixth of the season in the second to make it 3-1. Mosby took his out in the fourth for number five of the season. Both Miller and Mosby homered the night before as well.

Going into the fifth inning the Rascals trailed 4-2. Joel Boeschen was brought in with two outs after Williams departed and the Rascals within a run. River City cut it to 4-3 after Jacob DeBoer scored on Ryan Wehrle’s sacrifice fly. Boeschen, with Barganier at third after a double and a wild-pitch, allowed a game tying single to A.J. Van Slyke.

But the Grizzlies bullpen was solid after the game was tied 4-4 as their offense scored four runs, three in the eighth when Michael Campbell connected off Dustin Corbett for the Grizzlies third home run of the game. The game winning run scored in the fifth when Rothford sacrificed Robbie Minor in with a fly ball to center. Rothford finished the night 2-2 with four RBI.

Miller (2-3) went six innings and allowed five runs, four earned in the loss. Boeschen (1-0) got the win for Gateway with 2.1 innings of relief. Zach Grey picked up the save with 2.0 innings of shutout baseball.

The Rascals (18-14) still hold the season series advantage over Gateway (14-17) four games to one. The two teams will wrap up the series Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. with Scott Fogelson (2-1) for River City against Adam Revelette (1-0) for Gateway.
