| RASCALS DROP SERIES TO EVANSVILLE, ENTER TIE FOR SECOND PLACE
O’Fallon, MO – The River City Rascals and Scott Fogelson fell into the big inning as the Evansville Otters scored nine runs in the second and defeated the Rascals 13-4 Sunday night. The loss drops the Rascals (19-19) out of first place for the first time since May 16 when River City was tied with the Otters at the top of the Frontier League West. After back-to-back doubles scored a run in the Otters second, Fogelson had a chance to get out of the inning. With two outs, the Otters strung together seven straight base runners including two home runs to give them a 9-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, the Rascals managed to plate a run thanks to a pair of singles and an error by Evansville’s shortstop Gered Mochizuki allowed Andrew Sweet to score. The Rascals fought back in the third inning scoring three runs. With two outs, Sweet hit a two-run single to left field to score Jeff Miller and A.J. Van Slyke. After Phil Laurent singled to right field, he was brought home by a base hit from Ryan Wehrle bringing the score to 10-4 Otters after Evansville added a run in the top of the frame. The Rascals gave up three more runs to the Otters over the next six innings and were unable to score after the third inning leaving eight runners stranded on base. Evansville starter Adam Rogers (3-2) got the win pitching 7.0 innings allowing all four runs. Fogelson entered the game leading the Frontier league with a 2.11 ERA, but took the loss giving up eight runs and seven hits in 1.2 innings. Dustin Corbett made his fourth bullpen appearance allowing six hits and three runs. Brian Logan and Adam Tollefson each allowed a run, while Mike Benacka pitched the ninth for the Rascals and struck out three consecutive batters.
