TRAVERSE CITY COMPLETES SHUTOUT AGAINST RASCALS

O’Fallon, MO – Traverse City scored nine runs in two innings and the River City Rascals could not catch a break as the Beach Bums shut them out 11-0.

The Beach Bums out-hit the Rascals 14-7 and scored all but one of their runs with two outs.

Jake Laber (0-1) made his Frontier League debut tonight against the Beach Bums lasting 6.1 innings allowing three runs. The left-hander was solid in his first start but received no offense.

Traverse City manufactured the first run of the game in the third inning when Jake Whitesides hit a blooper that dropped in shallow center scoring Steve Young who singled and stole second.

The ball game stayed at a stalemate with neither team scoring until the seventh inning when the Beach Bums added five runs through four Rascals pitching changes. Mike Epping hit a ground rule double to right center field that scored two runners, followed by a Patrick Perry single that scored two more. The final run of the inning was scored on a bases loaded walk making the score 6-0 Beach Bums.

Things only got worse for the Rascals in the eighth inning when they added four more runs against Rascals reliever Luis Estrella (0-0) including a three-run home run by Brad Miller

The Rascals used a total of six pitchers against Traverse City. Ryan Gehring collected the win for Traverse City pitching his third complete game shutout this season allowing only seven hits while striking out six.

The River City Rascals (22-25) and the Traverse City Beach Bums (28-19) will finish their series on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Every Thursday at T.R. Hughes Ballpark is a Budweiser ‘Thirsty Thursday’ and fans 21 and older can enjoy dollar beers at Rascal Island until the end of the seventh inning.
