| BEACH BUMS HOLD ON FOR SWEEP
O’Fallon, MO – A four run second inning was enough for the Traverse City Beach Bums as they held on to sweep the River City Rascals 4-3 Thursday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. A pair of RBIs from Jeff Brown and Brad Roblin proved the difference when Rascals starter Scott Fogelson fell into trouble in the second. Brown doubled in two with the bases loaded, Roblin followed with a single to put the Beach Bums up 4-0. David Nathanson (9-1) started for Traverse City. The league’s winningest pitcher picked up his ninth win and fifth straight Thursday night. Jeff Miller got to Nathanson in the bottom of the second inning with his ninth home run of the season, the two run blast made it 4-2. Nathanson was on the hill in the fourth when Will Basom singled, moved to second on a throwing error and to third on a wild pitch. With one gone, Greg Stone drove one into center field to plate Basom to make it a one run game. That would be all the Rascals would get off the Beach Bums despite having multiple chances. River City stranded a running scoring position in the fourth, fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth innings, finishing with 11 total for the game. Nathanson departed after going 5.2 innings and walking a season high four batters. In the ninth, Jeff Williams collected his eighth save of the season, making it interested by walking two batters with two outs. But with Miller at the plate, Williams retired him on three pitches for his second strike out as the Beach Bums clinched their seventh straight win. Fogelson (2-5) took the loss for River City going 6.2 innings, allowing four runs, all earned on seven hits. Adam Tollefson fired 2.1 innings of no hit baseball for the Rascals out of the pen. The Rascals (22-26) have dropped three straight and entertain the Kalamazoo Kings who own the league’s best record for three this weekend at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Friday night is a Progress West Firework Friday with post-game fireworks. For tickets, call the Rascals at (636) 240-BATS.
