| RASCALS SCORE EARLY BUT FALL SHORT LOSING 6-2 TO MINERS
O’Fallon, MO—The River City Rascals ran into their second straight All-Star on the mound as Chris Little tossed eight innings of two run baseball for the Southern Illinois Miners as they took game one of the series 6-2 Monday night. Adam White made his first start for the Rascals pitching 6.1 innings striking out five. River City scored first in the ballgame, putting one run up in the bottom of the first inning when Andrew Sweet scored on an error. In the second, the Miners evened the score up on an RBI single to make it 1-1. In the bottom half of the inning the Rascals took their last lead of the ballgame when Luke Barganier hit a bases loaded RBI fielders choice to score Will Basom. Southern Illinois tied the game in the top of the fourth with an RBI double, before taking the lead in the seventh. With two men on and one out, Kevin Koskie’s hit up the middle proved to be the game winner, scoring two and chasing White. The Miners tacked on two more runs for insurance in the top of the ninth off relief pitcher Luis Estrella making the final score 6-2. Little (6-2) picked up his sixth win of the season with six strikeouts. White (0-1) took the loss in his first professional start, allowing eight hits and four runs, three earned. Jonathan Miller also made a relief appearance for the Rascals pitching 1.2 innings, striking out three batters and allowing a hit. The River City Rascals (25-30) and the Southern Illinois Miners (30-25) continue their series on Tuesday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday nights are Ruffy’s Reading Club nights and fans who participated can redeem their vouchers for free admission to the game.
